Floor tile from Rome
Large tile decorated with crowned eagle painted in dark manganese colour on a yellow ground. According to Bernhard Rackham (Italian Maiolica-V&A) from the Palazzo Borghese, Rome, where it was used as decorative floor tile. The eagle is derived from the coat of arms of the Borghese family. Several chips to glaze and sides, one chip to bottom left corner, glued.
