Large Soccarat with decoration in red
These large tiles were used for decoration of ceilings, they were places upon beams. They are very primitively made; tiles were formed in moulds, dried and covered with thin white slip. On this slip various designs were painted in black or red or a combination of both colours. They were fired only once. These were common in the Valencia region at the end of the fifteenth and first half of the sixteenth century. Some damage to one side, wear to the uneven surface. This is a heavy piece; almost 3 KG.
